Polesden Lacey
Surrey, UK, 2019

2019-1115_IMAGE4

The new restaurant links the new orchard garden to the rolling landscape that Polesden Lacey is famous for- where the valley in front of the house is the key element. This lightweight, gently sloping, curved roof is slung over structural elements that support it; feeling like you are under something quite natural in its form, that allows you to look out in various directions, and has dappled light coming from above. Made from timber CLT panels and layered glulam beams, light and acoustics are controlled with an overhead ceiling that hovers above the column free dining space. A sustainable, passive design, adheres to fundamental principles that allow for natural ventilation, natural cooling, the use of renewable materials, light filled spaces, and low energy consumption.
