We aim to create an architecture of local adaptation; to climate,
environment and culture.

Our approach is to attempt to avoid falling into preconceived solutions to design problems through a process of detailed analysis of site and brief prior to any design phase, and have experience in many sectors and at all scales - from master planning to product design. Working with an extensive range of consultants, teaching, and collaborations with architects, craftsmen and artists, all enrich the outlook of the studio.

The bid for the redevelopment of the NEC exhibition centre in Birmingham was one of seven short-listed entries from a developer-led consortium. The proposal, named NECity, aimed to extend its opening hours and create a more popular destination with extensive new facilities. To free up land for development on an existing car park with 20,000 spaces, we proposed multi-storey car-park towers and the creation of a leisure complex, restaurants, hotels and a modern exhibition centre.

A variety of programmes for exhibitions and entertainment would run both during the day and night – we proposed a ‘mediateque’ and a ‘digiteque’, exhibition spaces to explore the power of the media and new digital world. We also addressed the infrastructural developments for landscaping, the restructuring of traffic to new pedestrianized areas.
